Planning has begun for our Costa Rica trip this summer in the beginning of June. The 2010 trip will be much like the 2008 trip. Once again we will be staying with families in the central valley town of Grecia in order to experience the culture and improve our Spanish skills. Our trip will include activities such as visiting multiple volcanoes, sunbathing on beautiful beaches made of shells, relaxing in hammocks, hiking through the rainforest and swimming in waterfalls and hot springs. Optional trips to a private beach and a canopy tour on a zip line will once again be provided. Our usual Community Service activity will include carrying necessary school supplies and personal items to local children as well as possibly visiting the local schools and working with the children. Parents are welcome to accompany us on our trip and experience living with a Costa Rican family for themselves. Don’t be afraid if you don’t speak Spanish, as many of the families speak a small amount of English to aid in communication. Feel free to contact Mrs. Maakestad for a packet with information about cost, requirements and payment dates. As usual, a minimum of ten students is required to make the trip possible.
